Overview:

The US Open croquet tournament is an annual event hosted by the American Croquet Association (ACA).  The ACA was founded by Stan Patmor to provide representation for American players in the Croquet Association in England.  This tournament is played at Mission Hills Croquet Clubs in Rancho Mirage, California (just outside Palm Springs) and is held annually during the first week of December.  Tournament rules follow the Laws of Association Croquet as played throughout the British Commonwealth.  The US Open is both competitive and social.   In most years, there are 2 flights of play.  The Championship Open flight is available to players of all handicaps.
In recent years, a secondary event has been added called the Plate Event and players dropping out of the Open or B Flights are eligible to play in the Plate Event.  This event has been quite competitive and offers the player an additional game or two which is useful at establishing their World Ranking.

Association rules singles tournament in 2 flights.

“Open” flight players have 3 (2 hour) games per day in block play (Wed. Thur. & Fri.). “B” flight will play 2 (2 hour) games per day in block play.

Plate event(s), repassage rounds and finals games Sat. & Sun.

  • Thu. BBQ dinner at Stan's at Casalarrea (near San Luis Ray and 111) - after play till ?
  • Fri. Ellery McClatchy's - 6:00 PM
  • Sun. court side lunch with bloody Mary bar

plus morning coffee, rolls & soft drinks.

Both flights are limited to assure a full day's play for all entrants. While anyone can play in the Open flight, low handicap players will have first chance on the 20 (possibly 30) openings. A higher handicap player may be moved to the B flight (and that player will be contacted) if he is displaced from the Open flight.

Open Finals

The medalists (winners of both Open A and B blocks), Matt Baird and Paul Bennett, played each other in a best of three match on Saturday.
