How to run an Egyptian format

Summary:

Players start out the tournament with 100 pts each.  (Although I have read variations on this ... pts being initially set by your handicap or similar mechanism, perhaps even could be determined by order of finish exiting some other tournament if this format is used in a plate event for example.)

Each player recalculates his point standing after each game he/she plays.  The amount of pts earned for each game depends upon the standing between each player when they played.

This format allows players to jump into and join the tournament at any time.  If, at the end of the tournament, all players that played less than 3 games, will be penalized 30 pts.  The final standing will be at the end of Sunday's play, and the winner will be determined by the player with the greatest number of points.

Use the following table to calculate your point standing after each game.

Example:

Here is how it might get played out ...

Bennett 100>110 bt Kelley 100>95    Bennett starts with 100 pts, won 10pts by beating Kelley who loses 5 pts.
Kelley 95>105 bt Don Sr. 100>95
Kelley 105>115 bt Bennett 110>105
Kraft 100>110 by Don Sr. 95>90    Kraft joins in the tournament, and goes undefeated.
Kelley 115> 123 bt Bennett 105>102
Bennett 102>110 bt Don Sr. 90>87
Kraft 110>122 bt Kelley 123>115
Kraft 122>130 bt Bennett 110>107     Each player gets at least 3 games in and Bennett got 5 games in; if Bennett won instead of Kraft, Bennett would have won with 122 pts and Kraft would have dropped from 122 down to 114 pts.  Notice that Kelley, having earned his pts earlier, would have been in 2nd place either way and if he had won instead of Kraft, then he would have earned 131 pts and been unable to catch in the final game against Kraft and Bennett.

1. Ren Kraft 130pts
2. Rory Kelley 115 pts
3. Paul Bennett 107 pts
4. Don Fournier Sr. 87 pts
